Ingredients and Supplies
(see recipe card at the bottom of this post for measurements and details)
Ingredients:
- Top-slice hot dog buns: hold the hot dogs and all that melty cheese upright while creating a delicious, buttery garlic bread base. You can substitute regular hot dog buns or even use small hoagie rolls, if you prefer.
- Unsalted butter (melted): gives the buns their rich, golden, garlic bread flavor and helps them toast beautifully in the oven. You can substitute salted butter and reduce the garlic salt slightly to keep the topping from becoming too salty.
- Garlic salt: adds that classic garlicky flavor while seasoning the buttery buns. You can substitute it with 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- Hot dogs: the savory, satisfying centerpiece of this fun twist on traditional garlic bread. Beef, turkey, chicken, or plant-based hot dogs will all work great.
- Shredded mozzarella cheese: melts beautifully over the hot dogs, creating that irresistible, gooey, cheesy topping. You can substitute provolone, Monterey Jack, or an Italian cheese blend. Freshly shredded cheese melts best, but pre-shredded works great, too!
- Grated parmesan cheese: adds a deliciously salty, nutty flavor that complements the mozzarella and garlic butter. You can substitute grated Pecorino Romano or Asiago cheese for a similar savory flavor.
- Dried Italian seasoning: adds a flavorful blend of herbs that gives these cheesy hot dogs a pizza-inspired taste. You can substitute a combination of dried oregano and basil.
- Fresh parsley (for garnishing): adds a pop of fresh flavor and color to the finished hot dogs. You can substitute fresh basil or simply leave it off.
- Marinara sauce (for serving): makes a delicious, tangy dip that complements the cheesy garlic bread flavors. You can substitute pizza sauce or your favorite tomato-based pasta sauce or try my simple marinara sauce recipe.

- Sprinkle some mozzarella and parmesan over each hot dog.
- Sprinkle the cheese on each hot dog with a pinch of Italian seasoning.

- Return to the oven and bake another 10-12 minutes or until cheese is melted and starting to turn golden brown in spots.

Storage
These hot dogs are best enjoyed right after baking, but they can be stored and reheated. Let them cool completely, then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
Reheat in a 300°F oven, covered loosely with foil, for about 8–10 minutes or until warmed through and the cheese is melty. For a crispier top, uncover them for the last few minutes.
