Or, rather NOT fishy. I know that traditional Caesar dressing calls for anchovy paste. But I also know plenty of folks who won’t go for it. This dressing has wonderful flavor, with the depth and saltiness from anchovies replaced by Worcestershire sauce. It’s delicious!
What Do I Need to Make Chopped Caesar Salad with Homemade Croutons?
- Romaine lettuce
- Mayonnaise
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Fresh lemon juice
- Parmesan cheese
- Garlic
- Garlic powder
- Dijon mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Crusty baguette
- Garlic powder
- Baking sheet
- Large mixing bowl
- Large serving bowl
Make the Caesar Salad Dressing
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together all the dressing ingredients until well combined. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Shake or whisk to combine well before using.
Make the Homemade Croutons
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, toss the cubed bread with olive oil until coated evenly. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, salt and pepper. Gently toss until well combined.
- Spread the seasoned bread cubes into a single layer on a large baking sheet.
- Bake until golden and crispy, gently flipping the croutons halfway through, about 15 minutes total.
- Let cool completely and use immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

- Put the chopped romaine lettuce in a large serving bowl.
- Add the Caesar dressing and toss until evenly coated.
- Add the shaved Parmesan and croutons.

Ingredients
For the Caesar Dressing (makes 3/4 cup):
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small clove garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
For the Croutons:
