This fruit pizza is truly one of the easiest, and most enjoyable, patriotic desserts to make for your holiday celebration! You can even use store-bought sugar cookie dough if you want to make things even easier.

I use my Sugar Cookie Bar recipe for this fruit pizza (see recipe card below). The cookie crust bakes up crisp and the middle is soft and chewy. It’s perfect every time! You’ll need about five cups of sugar cookie dough to make this recipe.

Ingredients and Supplies

(see recipe card at the bottom of this post for measurements and details. To learn more about specific baking ingredients and how they function in baking recipes, reference my Complete Guide to Baking Ingredients)

Ingredients:

  • Unsalted butter: makes the cookie base rich, soft, and buttery.
  • Granulated sugar: sweetens the cookie dough and helps create a tender texture.
  • Whole milk: adds moisture to the dough for a soft bite.
  • Pure vanilla extract: adds warm, classic sugar cookie flavor.
  • Large eggs: help bind the dough and keep the cookies soft and chewy.
  • All-purpose flour: gives the cookie bars their structure and stability.
  • Baking powder: leavening agent that helps the cookie bars bake up soft and slightly fluffy.
  • Kosher salt: balances the sweetness and enhances the flavor. Table salt will actually pack a saltier punch than Kosher salt so if you only have table salt, adjust accordingly.
  • Cream cheese: makes the frosting creamy, tangy, and spreadable.
  • Powdered sugar: sweetens and smooths out the frosting. Sift first to avoid lumps.
  • Strawberries (thinly sliced): form the red stripes of the American flag.
  • Blueberries: create the blue field of the American flag.

  • Cut into star shapes with a star cookie cutter that’s about 1.5-2 inches in diameter.
  • Bake the sheet pan cookie until golden brown all over and starting to crack in the middle. This should take about 22-24 minutes. Rotate the pan halfway through the baking time.
  • Remove the cookie from the oven and let cool completely.
  • Bake the star cookies for 6-8 minutes or until cookies are set and starting to turn light brown around the edges.
  • To make the Cream Cheese Frosting: In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar on low speed until just combined. Then beat the cream cheese mixture on high speed until smooth and spreadable.

Quick Tip:

Don’t have a stand mixer? You can use a large mixing bowl and a hand mixer with the beater attachments to easily mix together this cookie dough.

Storage

Store leftover American Flag Fruit Pizza covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The cream cheese frosting and fresh fruit stay freshest when chilled. If possible, store the extra star cookies separately at room temperature in an airtight container so they stay crisp.

For the best texture, wait to add any extra fruit toppings until just before serving leftovers since the strawberries can release moisture over time.
