Breakfast for Dinner

Breakfast for dinner (aka brinner!) is one of our weeknight regulars, so this Build-Your-Own Waffle Board makes an appearance quite often at our dining table. We’ll also make it for breakfast or brunch on the weekend. The excitement that brews as we’re building this board and the enjoyment that we all experience as we’re eating off of it is truly the best!

Watch Me Make a Waffle Board

Join me in the kitchen as I make a fun and fabulous waffle board for brunch!

Mix it Up!

And since we have it so often, it’s also fun to mix up. While my Classic Crispy Waffles are such a perfect waffle for a Build-Your-Own Waffle Board, sometimes I’ll go with French Toast Waffle Sticks, or Blueberry Cake Waffles for some added variety with still lots of yum.

Occasionally, we’ll add scrambled eggs, sunny-side-up eggs or egg bites and even some Baked Crispy Chicken Tenders or chicken nuggets to the board for a good protein option. They are all a huge hit!

We also enjoy mixing up the toppings. Of course, butter and maple syrup are a must have on a waffle board. Some of our other favorite toppings are fresh fruit, peanut butter, Nutella, honey, pecans, chocolate chips, sprinkles and whipped cream.

Build the Perfect Waffle

How would you top your perfect waffle?! I love peanut butter on my waffles so I usually go with peanut butter and then banana, berries, nuts and a drizzle of maple syrup on one and maybe strawberries and chocolate chips on the other. I topped one of my waffles with butter, chicken nuggets, blueberries, pecans, and honey. Oh my yum!

Ingredients:

PRO TIP!

Keep the warm foods warming in a 200°F oven while you put the other foods on the board first, leaving spaces for the warm foods. Add them last, right before serving. Also, I keep additional waffles in the warm oven in case we need to refill them after each person enjoys one or two.

Spreads:

  • Softened butter
  • Peanut butter
  • Nutella
  • Whipped Topping (such as Cool Whip so it will hold it’s creaminess while everyone is building their waffle creations)

Fruits:

  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Banana slices
  • Strawberry slices

Drizzles:

  • Maple syrup
  • Honey

Crunchy Toppings:

  • Chopped pecans
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles

Board Supplies

I think a Belgian Waffle Maker makes such perfectly crisp waffles every time!

Some of my favorite boards to use for a build-your-own board are this 24” x 18” wood board and this 20″ round board.

I most often use these small serving bowls, these Mason jars and these square serving bowls to serve all of the toppings out of on the board. I also use a small gravy boat for the maple syrup because it’s great to heat the syrup up in the microwave and easy to pour the syrup onto our waffles with.

  5. When the bacon is finished baking, turn the oven down to 200°F. Keep the cooked waffles, baked bacon and chicken nuggets in the warm oven while you arrange everything on the board.
  6. Put all of the spreads, fruits, drizzles and toppings in small bowls or jars.
  7. Place the bowls of spreads down one side of the board and put the honey and pecans just below them.
  8. Next, place the bowls of fruits on the other side of the board and put the sprinkles and chocolate chips above them.
  9. Now it’s time to add the warm foods. Place the bacon and chicken nuggets on opposite corners of the board.
  10. Warm the maple syrup in the microwave and place it in the middle of the board.
  11. Finish by placing the warm waffles down the middle of the board, above and below the maple syrup.
  12. Serve immediately while everything is warm. Enjoy!

Notes

Keep the warm foods warming in a 200°F oven while you put the other foods on the board first, leaving spaces for the warm foods. Add them last, right before serving.

Warming the peanut butter and Nutella in the microwave for about 15 seconds just before serving makes it easy to drizzle over the waffles.
