How to Cook Sunny-Side-Up Eggs

A bright, shiny yellow yolk in a field of cooked white are the hallmarks of a perfect sunny-side-up egg. Done right, the yolk is hot and runny, and the edges of the whites are crisp. They require a gentle touch and a little patience but man, are they worth it!

Sunny Side Up Eggs by The BakerMama

We call them “runny eggs” and they’re definitely our family’s preferred way to enjoy eggs. Whether on avocado toast or just by themselves with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, there’s just something so satisfying about a sunny-side-up egg. Let’s get started!

First, gently crack each egg into its own small prep dish, taking care not to break the yolk. Prepare a large skillet or griddle with non-stick cooking spray and place it over medium heat. Next, very carefully pour each egg into the hot skillet, giving them plenty of space between each other so they don’t touch.

Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the egg whites are set. If necessary, you can cover the skillet with a lid for a minute to help cook the egg white. Carefully slip the egg onto a plate or serving platter so as not to break that perfect runny egg yolk. Season with a sprinkle of salt and serve immediately.

That’s it! So easy, right? If you’re building a board and not serving the eggs immediately, you can keep them warm in a 200°F oven until ready to serve. Enjoy!
