Ingredients and Supplies

Ingredients:
- Whole milk ricotta: creates the light, fluffy base of the dip and gives it a mild, creamy richness that balances the smoky toppings. You could substitute full-fat cottage cheese (blended smooth), mascarpone for a richer result, or part Greek yogurt for a tangier twist, though ricotta gives the best texture.
- Cream cheese (softened): adds body, tanginess, and a smooth, spreadable texture that helps stabilize the whipped dip. Neufchâtel cheese works well as a lighter substitute, or mascarpone can be used for a milder, richer flavor.
- Kosher salt: enhances all the flavors and balances the richness of the cheeses. Fine sea salt or table salt can be substituted—just use a little less since the grains are smaller and saltier by volume.
- Smoked salmon (chopped): the star topping, adding savory, smoky flavor and that classic bagel-and-lox vibe. You could substitute hot-smoked salmon, chopped gravlax, smoked trout, or simply omit it for a vegetarian version.
- Red onion (thinly sliced): adds sharpness, crunch, and a pop of color that cuts through the creamy dip. Thinly sliced shallots, green onions, or pickled red onions would all be great substitutes.
- Capers: bring salty, briny bursts of flavor that complement the salmon beautifully. Chopped cornichons, diced olives, or a few extra squeezes of lemon can work if you don’t have capers.
- Lemon zest (from 1/2 of a large lemon): adds fragrant citrus oils and fresh brightness that makes the dip taste extra vibrant.
- Lemon juice: brightens the creamy cheeses and adds the fresh acidity that pairs perfectly with smoked salmon. Fresh lemon juice is best!
- Everything bagel seasoning: gives the dip that signature bagel-shop flavor with garlic, onion, sesame, and poppy seeds. You can substitute sesame seeds plus a sprinkle of garlic and onion powder, or simply omit it if unavailable.
- Chopped fresh dill: adds a clean, herbaceous finish that pairs naturally with smoked salmon. Fresh chives, parsley, or a small pinch of dried dill can be used instead.
- Lemon wedges: for serving, they let everyone add an extra squeeze of brightness right before eating.
- Bagel crisps: for dipping, they add crunch and reinforce the bagel flavor theme of the dip. Toasted baguette slices, pita chips, crackers, or toasted bagel pieces are all great substitutes.
- Cucumber slices: for dipping, they offer a fresh, crisp, lighter serving option that balances the richness of the dip. Celery sticks, bell pepper strips, radishes, or endive leaves would all work well instead.

Serving and Storage
Serve smoked salmon dip with lemon wedges, bagel crisps and cucumber slices.
This dip is a great make-ahead option for brunch. Prepare the whipped ricotta and cream cheese base up to 1 day in advance, cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve. Just before guests arrive, spread it onto your serving platter and add the smoked salmon, onion, capers, lemon zest, seasoning, and dill so it looks fresh and vibrant. Serve chilled or let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to soften slightly before serving.
Store any leftover smoked salmon bagel dip covered tightly in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If possible, store the whipped cheese base separately from the toppings so everything stays fresh and the onions and herbs don’t soften too much. Give the dip a quick stir before serving again and add fresh toppings if desired for the best texture and flavor.

#TheBakerMamaRecipeChallenge Loved how versatile this is! Made a vegetarian version, perfect for brunch.
Hi, Sarah! I love that you made it your own! Thank you for sharing.
What a fun dip and perfect part of brunch! I used pickled red onions instead of raw and served it with homemade bagel crisps in various flavors. Everyone loved it!
#TheBakerMamaRecipeChallenge
Adrienne! Oooh, I LOVE pickled red onion. That’s such a great swap. Thank you so much for sharing!!
This dip could be dangerous! Very addicting in my opinion. It very light, which is a welcome surprise.
Hi, Judy! I am so thrilled you enjoyed it so much. And yes, it can be rather addicting!
I made this for a “dip contest” at work and it was great!! I put together the cheese bottom the night before and did all the toppings before serving. Turned out fantastic! #TheBakerMamaRecipeChallenge
Hi, Nicole! First of all, a dip contest sounds AMAZING. Do they need a judge 😉 I am so happy it turned out great for you! Thank you for sharing.
So easy and everyone loved it!
Hi, Collette! I am thrilled that it was easy and everyone enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing!
Outstanding! A huge hit at brunch. Easy to make ahead. I doubled the recipe for a larger crowd .
Hi Lynn! So glad to hear it was a hit! It really is such a great make-ahead option for a crowd and I love that you doubled it! Thanks for sharing!
Great dip!! The smoked salmon I bought was bad so I just added a little more of all the regular toppings and mixed them into the base dip. It was fantastic it got so many compliments.
That’s awesome that you made it work so well even without the smoked salmon. So happy to hear everyone enjoyed it!
This is a great recipe and has a beautiful presentation! I made it exactly as written the night before serving for Father’s Day brunch and everyone raved about it. I served it with pita thins and sliced cucumbers, and a side of chopped avocado. Some ate it on a bagel and others used the cukes or pita chips. My only recommendation would be to use a high-quality full-fat ricotta. I bought the one brand that was stocked in the store, not my usual brand, and although everyone raved about it, I felt it would have been better with my usual brand of ricotta. It is a keeper for sure! Thank you for the recipe!
Hi, Barbie! I’m picky about ricotta, too. You’ll just have to make it again! I’m so happy to hear everyone enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!
Hi there,
Just wondering why a food processor vs. mixer?
Thanks,
Poppy
Hi, Poppy! You can use a blender if you don’t have a food processor. Enjoy!
I couldn’t wait to try this after my event with my smoked salmon as I knew that there would be leftovers, well, I hoped that there would be leftovers! There was just enough for me to share with my friend. I made this the next evening for a dinner party and, WOW, it was a hit! Everything that you want in that one perfect bite presented beautifully on a platter! My guest asked if I could make one for her for an event that she is having next month. I also used it for breakfast the next morning on a bagel. It’s a keeper and my new favorite go to for catering events!
Hi, Laurie! I am thrilled to hear that it was such a hit! I hope you enjoy it again and again.
Just another incredible way to serve smoked salmon. I have made my smoked salmon boards for years and there is always some torn apart but still very tasty leftovers! This is perfect and beautiful. I will definitely be making this and I will review how it went. Thank you!
Hi, Laurie! I can’t wait to hear what you think!
Is the ricotta necessary? Could you double thr cream cheese
Can you make the everything bagel dip the night before and keep covered in the fridge? Thx!
Hi Robin! Absolutely! Just cover it tightly and it will look and taste great the next day. Enjoy!
So FABULOUS! This is a great dip for home movies night with gals! We had ours with pinot and fruit….YUMM!
Hi, Sara! I’m so glad y’all enjoyed it so much!
