Burrata, tomato and fresh basil topped with pesto, pistachios and lemon zest make this Burrata Caprese Platter a creamy, dreamy appetizer.
So Creamy, So Dreamy
When it comes to summer entertaining, this easy, sophisticated Burrata Caprese Platter is one of my go-to appetizers. Creamy burrata, fresh tomatoes and basil topped with crushed pistachio, pesto and lemon zest. There’s so much flavor and amazing texture. It’s a crowd pleaser!
What is Burrata?
Burrata is a cow’s milk cheese from Italy. It’s made from fresh mozzarella that’s been formed into a hollow ball and filled with cheese curd and cream. It’s firm out the outside like mozzarella and very soft and creamy on the inside, like ricotta.
You should be able to find burrata in your grocery store with the fresh mozzarella.

Turn Up the Flavor
Caprese has always been one my favorite flavor combinations. I have so many variations of this Italian salad, because clearly, I can’t get enough.
But swapping out the mozzarella for burrata really takes things up a notch. The texture of burrata is unbelievable. So creamy and so full of flavor, too.

A Platter or a Salad!
You can eat this dish without crostini and make it a burrata caprese salad recipe instead. Just serve with a drizzle with olive oil and maybe even a sweet balsamic glaze. Or serve olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the side for your guests to add to their liking.
If you’re going to serve it as a summer salad, you could use a larger tomato variety, like heirloom tomatoes. I used Roma tomatoes so they would be small enough for layering on crostini.

This was a big hit and looks very colorful on a cute serving plate! It is an appetizer I would suggest making right before serving. Have everything sliced, chopped and grated ahead of time and assemble/serve immediately.
