I adore an unconventional take on a classic salad, and this Star-Spangled Slaw is no exception. How cute is this? So cute. And whether you’re hosting a 4th of July cookout or contributing to a potluck, it really packs a punch! It’s so fresh and flavorful. And not to mention festive! This attention-getter is sure to be a crowd-pleaser at your celebration.

The flavor combinations in this slaw make it instantly craveable. Sweet berries, salty feta, crispy almonds, and a sweet blueberry balsamic drizzle – it’s a party for your tastebuds. I made this adorable flag-shaped slaw for a 4th of July party, but it would be perfect for Labor Day or Memorial Day, as well. We do love our patriotic cookouts!

Oh! And if time is not on your side and you need a quick but fabulous side, all of these ingredients can be tossed together and enjoyed served pre-mixed in a bowl instead of as a flag. It’s still yummy as can be!

How to Make a Star Spangled Slaw

First, wash and prep the berries. Lay the blueberries on a paper towel to dry. Quarter the strawberries and set aside to dry.

To make the coleslaw dressing, whisk the yogurt, honey and lemon juice together in a large mixing bowl. Add the coleslaw mix to the bowl and toss until coated evenly.

Spread the coleslaw in an even layer on a rectangular platterTo create the flag pattern, begin by placing a row of strawberries along the bottom of the coleslaw covered platter, followed by a row of crumbled feta. Fill the top left corner with blueberries. Finish the stripes with another row of strawberries, a row of slivered almonds and one last row of strawberries.

To make the blueberry balsamic drizzle, whisk the wild blueberry preserves, olive oil and balsamic vinegar together in a small bowl. Drizzle the arranged platter of Star-Spangled Slaw with about 1 tablespoon of the blueberry balsamic drizzle. Fill a small jar with the remaining drizzle.

Fill a star-shaped bowl with star crackers for serving. Serve and enjoy! I found the plates I used here at Target but I think they have sold out of them. These or these I found on Amazon would be great! I found similar festive cutlery that I found years ago at Target on Amazon.
