  1. I made this last night for dinner. We loved it. Being a former Wisconsin boy, I couldn’t resist adding a cup of sharp cheddar to the meat and a half cup to the topping. Didn’t need it. So good. Happy I found your recipe.

  2. I thought this was delicious. I will make it again! The only thing I did different was I added more cheese on top at the end.

  3. This is looking great and I want to make it tomorrow night. However I was wondering what the nutritional information is, I can’t seem to find it

    1. Hi, Robin! I don’t provide nutritional information or calorie counts at this time because everyone uses different brands of ingredients which often have differing nutritional values. I would recommend plugging the ingredients you use into a free online recipe nutrition calculator like: https://whisk.com/recipe-nutrition-calculator/ Hope this helps. Enjoy! ❤️

  4. Not sure what I did differently, but my topping/batter was way too liquid-y, not drop-able. I used 1 c flour, 1 c milk and 1 egg as the recipe is written (butter, cheese, and baking powder too). I double checked the recipe….but, I felt it was a cup of flour short (or a 1/2 c or more too much milk). Help!

    1. Hi Kirsten! It should be thin enough to dollop evenly over the meat mixture to cover it completely without have to spread it. The measurements are correct. I hope it baked up great for you!

    2. I had the same thing happen. I could have poured the mixture on top. It baked up fine but is not nearly as thick as in the picture!!

    3. I totally agree. I kept adding flour, up to at least 3/4 of a cup and then more baking powder b/c of the added flour, when I felt like it was the right consistency. It was delicious! A keeper with the added flour & BP. 👍🏻❤️

  5. Delicious recipe. Perfect as written. I used cup4cup gluten free flour & it was tasty. I did add some herbs de provence to the crust. I’m now cooking a turkey, boiling the carcass for stock & making a pot pie with the same crust recipe.

  6. My husband took one bite of this and went “Yum! This is great. Make it again soon!” He doesn’t do that often. I had to agree with him and this recipe is on a short list of regulars. I enjoy sloppy Joe’s and will be using the meat part of the recipe from now on. I’m going to scour the rest of your site to see what other goodies you have to offer.. Thanks for a winner!

PS…It’s just mu husband and me at home now but there wasn’t much left over at all. LOL

  7. I am in Australia and to us a Sloppy Joe is a loose fitting sweater.
BUT I made this for dinner tonight and it was great. I thought I’d used minced beef in every way possible but never covered it with what we would call a soft cheese scone dough. I cut it by a third for just the two of us but I’ll make the full recipe next time.

    1. Hi Frank! I don’t because I use lean ground beef and there is very little fat to drain off once it cooks all the way through. If there is a lot of fat, you could certainly drain it off. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  8. Made this tonight & even my picky eater asked for seconds! I added a can of creamed corn to the cornbread topping. Both boys asked to add it to our dinner rotation list. Thanks for such a good idea.

  9. We used almond flour and unsweetened almond milk and organic eggs and it was really good, plus we put sour cream on top. Yum. I’m doing keto so the modification works.

  10. Have you ever made the crust as a stand alone biscuit? Do you think it would work, because the crust is soooo good!

    1. Hi Nikki! I haven’t, but that is such a great idea! Yum yum! If you try it, I would recommend rolling the dough out onto a well-floured surface as the dough is pretty wet so it would definitely need more flour to hold the biscuit shape. Let me know how they turn out if you try it. Enjoy!

      1. In the south, my mama made ‘drop biscuits’ . Basically, wet dough dropped by the spoonful on greased pan and baked. They were delicious, though not perfectly round.

  11. I’ve been making Sloppy Joes with no mix forever!, but never put a crust on top. We all LOVED this!! I can’t eat bell peppers so I substituted celery. Thank you !

  12. This is a great recipe, my whole family loved it. We will be making this a lot. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  13. Hi Maegan, Do you think I could make this one day before baking it? It sounds great for our next family party!

    1. Hi Sheree! Yes, just prepare it and let the meat mixture cool completely before covering tightly and storing in the refrigerator overnight. When you’re ready to bake it, place the casserole in the oven while it preheats and it should be ready in the same amount of baking time as the recipe calls for. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  14. For the breakfast casserole., I can’t use reg flour cause have celiac disease., so can I use domata flour g/f instead.

    1. Hi Ada! I couldn’t say for sure how the casserole would turn out because I don’t bake regularly with gluten-free flour and haven’t tested it with this recipe. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

      1. I use gluten free flour all the time. I am picky about my food lol. I have never had any problems with it. I use Krustz gluten free and love it. My husband has gluten problems. But he loves everything I make!

  15. This recipe is so easy. The harest part for me was trying to spread the dough evenly. Another easy ground beef recipe to add to my collection…

  18. Yet another way to use ground beef that sounds wonderful. Can’t wait ’til I have the opportunity to
    try it out!

    1. Hi Allyson! I’ve never frozen it, so I can’t say for sure, but I think it would freeze just fine if you wrap it well in the freezer and let it defrost before baking. Let me know if you try it! Enjoy!
