A Drink for the Dog Days of Summer
August can be a real scorcher here in Dallas, and if today is any indication, things are *just* heating up. Whew! Around here, we don’t mind the heat too much. But we do love to cool down with a dip in the pool and an ice cold drink. And I admit it. I love the hero’s welcome I get when I appear on the patio with a pitcher of this Fresh Mint Lemonade. Everyone loves it! It’s also great to serve your guests–the subtle coolness of the mint on a hot afternoon is always a win.
Some of the very best flavors come from the simplest ingredients. And this lemonade is the perfect example! Fresh mint, the juice of a few lemons, sugar and water. That’s it! The muddled mint adds an unexpected layer of flavor that you’ll love! You won’t want to make it any other way again. And by creating a simple syrup, you eliminate the grittiness of other lemonades, making for a super smooth, incredible refreshing experience. It’s the perfect summer sipper!
What Do I Need to Make Fresh Mint Lemonade

- Fresh mint leaves
- Fresh squeezed lemon juice
- Ice cubes
How to Make Fresh Mint Lemonade
- First, make the sugar syrup. In a saucepan over medium heat, add ¼ cup sugar and ½ cup water. Bring to a simmer and stir frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, remove the pan from the heat. Let cool for a few minutes.
- Next, muddle the mint leaves in the bottom of a large pitcher by gently mashing the mint with a cocktail muddler or wooden spoon. Then add the lemon juice to a pitcher along with 4 cups of water.
- Pour the sugar syrup into the pitcher and mix well. Add plenty of ice cubes and more water if you find the lemonade too strong. Sip and enjoy!
