3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Honey Oat Bars
- Prep Time: 5 mins
- Cook Time: 20 mins
- Total Time: 25 mins
- Yield: 9
- Category: Dessert
Description
3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Honey Oat Bars are the perfect healthy snack. Easy to bake and you probably always have the ingredients on hand!
Ingredients
- 2 cups old-fashioned or quick cooking rolled oats
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter (I use natural peanut butter)
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, peanut butter and honey until well combined. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the oats start to toast around the edges and turn a light brown on top. Let cool completely before cutting into squares. Store in an airtight container.
Notes
If the mixture seems dry before pressing it into the pan, add a little more peanut butter and/or honey until the mixture comes together. Some peanut butters are thicker and more dry than others.
I substituted the honey for molasses and added a little bit of vanilla essence
Hi Sophia! That sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
These are so yummy! I put dark chocolate chips on it when I took it out of the oven, let them melt and spread it over top. I kept them in the fridge 2 weeks. Getting ready to make my 2nd batch today. They taste like a mix of Reese’s cups and Butterfinger bars to me.
Hi, Susan! Melted chocolate is the perfect addition! Thank you for sharing. I’m so happy you enjoy them!
I was trying to make my own honey oat bars.
I used 2C oats..1C Jiff no sugar Jif P butter
and eyeballed about 1C honey.
using an 8×8.. they’re not thin and crispy.
I later found your recipe. have you tried using a jellyroll pan for thinner bars? please advise
Hi Jeannie! I haven’t tried them in a larger pan to make them thinner, but you certainly could. That would help make them thinner with a slight crisp. Enjoy!
Many thanks for this recipe—simple and nourishing with many possibilities for variation. How long would you recommend these be stored? And can they be stored in the fridge?
Hi, Anna! Great question! They keep great in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days and in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks really. I love eating them chilled, but you can always let come to room temp to enjoy. They also freeze well. I would recommend wrapping each bar in plastic wrap and then placing in a freezer-safe container or plastic bag to freezer for up to two months and then defrost, still sealed, in the refrigerator before enjoying.
Hi. Do these have to be baked or can they just be left in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before cutting?
Hi Kate! You can certainly enjoy them without baking them. They will just be more gooey and won’t have that toasted oat flavor. Just make sure you let them set in refrigerator or at room temperature for at least an hour so they hold their shape once sliced into bars. I hope this helps. Enjoy!
I am peanut allergic, used Almond Butter instead, added vanilla and cinnamon. yummy. would you happend to know the nutritional values.
Carol
Hi, Carol! I’m glad they turned out so well! I would recommend plugging the ingredients you use into a free online recipe nutrition calculator like: https://whisk.com/recipe-nutrition-calculator/ Hope this helps. Enjoy! ❤️
Oh my goodness, these were delicious! Easy and quick to make. Mine came out perfectly, just like the picture. Thank you for this recipe!
Hi, Amanda! I am so happy to hear how much you enjoy them. They are a family favorite for sure!
did you have the nutritional facts please
Hi Kim! I don’t provide nutritional information at this time. I would recommend plugging the ingredients you use into a free online recipe nutrition calculator like: https://whisk.com/recipe-nutrition-calculator/ Hope this helps. Enjoy! ❤️
These were so easy and yummy! Mine weren’t crunchy at all. I think it helped that I used a new jar of peanut butter that needed to be stirred so the oil was at the top after it was freshly stirred. I baked them for 12 mins and didn’t even wait for them to cool. 😉 Delicious! I think I’ll add some chocolate chips in next time too.
Hi, Rebecca! Thank you so much of sharing. I’m so glad you enjoyed them!
Based on the reviews a lot of people said they were to crunchy so I added a little bit of almond milk (maybe a 1/4 cup) to the peanut butter, honey and oats and mixed everything together real good and they turned out really good and moist and delicious!
Hi, Ave! Thank you for sharing your modification. I haven’t had the crunchy problem, but that’s so helpful!
The oats are still crunchy…. disappointed.
Hi Sheila! Bummer, the bars should definitely be chewy. The oats around the edges and on top could certainly get crunchy as they bake, but overall the bars should be chewy. Maybe you overbaked them or baked them too high up in your oven? You could try covering them with foil next time to prevent them from crisping too much. Hope this helps!
Hi, I made these this evening. I wanted a little more crunch so I added some krispy rice cereal and some chocolate chips. I thought I better double the honey since I added additional dry cereal. They turned out great, my husband loved them. I thought they were really good but just a little too sweet for me. Next time I’ll try the natural peanut butter and maybe a little over 1/4 cup of honey. Thank you for such a easy recipe.
Hi, Tammy! I never thought of adding rice cereal. That sounds delicious! I’m so glad you enjoyed them.
Just made these. The middle did not bake very well and I think it needs a little more sweetness to counter the cloying peanut butter. I do enjoy them though and will play with the recipe a bit. Thank you for the idea!
Hi, Rick! I’m sorry to hear it didn’t bake up well! I’ve always understood ‘cloying’ to mean too sweet, but if it’s more sweetness you’re after, perhaps if you use processed peanut butter instead of natural peanut butter it will give you the flavor you’re looking for.
Sadly had the same thing happened regarding it being dry. I had made something similar to these a couple years ago and was trying to find the recipe. My peanut butter was brand new and it was the same ingredients I had used before. Might try again but adjust ingredients.
Mine also turned out too dry, twice now. A great idea but a waste of ingredients.
Oh no! I’m wondering if it’s the type/brand of peanut butter you’re using or if they were baked too much. I would recommend reducing the baking time and using a creamier peanut butter. If the mixture seems dry before patting it in the pan, I recommend adding a little more peanut butter and/or honey until the mixture is moist and easy to press into the baking dish. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
Mine turned out too crumbly to cut. Used like a topping for yogurt. What did I do wrong?
Hi Nina! What kind of peanut butter did you use? I’m wondering if it was not creamy enough? Or did you over-bake them? Did you use old-fashioned oats? Next time, if the mixture seems too dry before pressing it into the baking dish, try adding more peanut butter or honey. And maybe try baking them for just 10-15 minutes as oven temperatures sometimes vary and they could have dried out if they over-baked. Hope this helps and that you were still able to enjoy as a yogurt topping which sounds so yummy. 🙂
I love this recipe! Very simple! Thanks! I will be making a double batch of these!
Hi, Can I use Quaker gluten free quick oats instead of rolled oats?
Hi Kelly! Yes, most oats are actually gluten free unless they’re processed in a facility where they could be exposed to gluten. The Quaker gluten free quick oats will work just as great, the bars will just bake about 2-5 minutes quicker. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
Tried this yesterday. I used chunky peanut butter. So goood.
Please what is the calorie content?
Thank you.
Hi Joy! So glad you liked the Peanut Butter Honey Oat Bars as much as we do. I don’t provide nutritional information at this time because everyone uses different brands of ingredients which often have differing nutritional values. I would recommend plugging the ingredients you used into a free online nutrition calculator like: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/calculator Hope this helps. Continue to enjoy!
I’m going to make it after dinner so excited
I don’t know why mine turned out really dry? I even mixed with my hands .
Hi Emma! Was your peanut butter dried out? What brand did you use?
Enjoyed the first batch, making a second. I like this recipe because it simple, transparent and delicious.
Do you use a natural peanut butter or more like Jif? Thanks!
Hi Sara! I use Natural Jif or Natural Skippy. They tend to have less oil settling on top. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
I am looking for a low salt bar and these sound GREAT for my need. Can these be made with unsalted peanut butter? The peanut butter that I have been using is also unsweetened but I assume that makes no matter since there is honey in the recipe. Thanks.
Hi Roger! Yes, you can definitely use unsalted peanut butter. Enjoy!
Hi, can I use rolled oats for this?
Hi Sky! Yes, old-fashioned oats are rolled oats. Enjoy!
Can steel oats be used?
Hi Brenda! If they’re quick-cooking steel cut oats, they should work great, but I would not recommend using regular raw steel cut oats or already cooked steel cut oats. Hope this helps. And here is a recipe for steel cut oat cookies you might enjoy: https://thebakermama.com/recipes/4-ingredient-steel-cut-oat-cookies/
Please ounces or grams what is a cup.
