Whole wheat flour, peanut butter and honey make Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins a filling breakfast or snack they’ll love!

Delicious, Filling, Nutritious
With protein-rich peanut butter, whole wheat, and honey instead of sugar, this healthier version of my go-to Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins is anything but a compromise. They’re a delicious, filling breakfast or snack that you can feel great about eating–and giving to your kids!

Kids in the Kitchen
When the boys were small, we got one of those OK to Wake alarm clocks that let them know it was okay to get up. It worked most mornings, but I remember one morning, they got up super early, roweled up and raring to go and begging for muffins for breakfast.
I decided if they were going to get up that early, they had to start making their own breakfast. So I turned off the cartoons and got them in the kitchen so they could start making muffins. Honestly, how cute is this photo? They LOVE helping in the kitchen!

Easy and Scrumptious
They’re made with whole wheat flour, peanut butter, extra bananas for moisture, a little honey for sweetness and mini chocolate chips all throughout! M’m! M’m! This recipe is so quick and easy that by four years old, Baker had the recipe memorized. Makes this mama proud!

These muffins are a no-brainer! You can have them ready to eat in less than 30 minutes, they’re healthy yet still sweet, moist and full of flavor. I hope they become as much of a family fave in your house as they are in ours! If you’re looking for more traditional banana chocolate chip muffins, I’ve got you covered, too!

will try this recipe for sure. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Asha! Yay, you’re sure to enjoy them!
This were so good! I’m always looking for healthier alternatives to store bought muffins and I think my family will love this too! No loss if no one else likes them, I can definitely polish off the batch myself!
Hi, Kelly! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed them! My kids really love them so I’m guessing you’ll end up sharing.😂
I used this recipe and it came out really good ! I omitted the honey (going sugar free 😆) and added unsweetened almond milk because the though seemed thick and in the end it was still good ! The bananas gave it a sweet taste ! Thanks a lot 😊
Hi, Liz! I’m so glad it turned out well! I haven’t tried it without honey, so I’m happy it worked!
Healthy and yummy at the same time!!! Yummmmmmm!
Mine turned out pretty dry….maybe more bananas to add moisture?
Hi Lauren! Oh no, maybe it was the peanut butter you used? Was the peanut butter dried out? Were your bananas ripe? Did you measure out 1 and 1/2 cups of mashed banana. These muffins should bake nice and moist. Hope you get to try them again noon!
where did you find that cute muffin pan ive never seen one like that looks really cool would like to get one
Hi Linda! I got it at IKEA and I love it!

Love, love, love these muffins! Only change I made was to also add some peanut butter chips. Definitely my new go-to muffin recipe.
Unsweetened apple sauce worked great in place of honey, too! My 11 month old loves these (left out the chocolate.)
That’s great, Anna! Thanks so much for sharing. Glad your little ones loves them!
I made them this morning with 1/2 C of brown sugar instead of the honey and they were great! I added a splash of buttermilk to the batter because it seemed a little thick and I had some I need to use. I ended up with 12 standard sized muffins and little bit of batter left so I made two doughnuts with the extra. Husband, baby and Mama approved! Thanks for such a yummy recipe! 🙂
These sound so yummy!
I was wondering, do you think I could substitute brown sugar for the honey? My little guy isn’t one yet and I was thinking these might be good breakfasts for us if I could substitute something else for the honey (and leave the chocolate chips out of a few of them).
I’m thinking I’ll give it a try, but I thought I’d see if you had any pointers first. 🙂
Hi Michelle! I think brown sugar in place of the honey would work great. Let me know how they turn out. Enjoy!
I don’t have kids so I haven’t heard of those alarm clocks, but they sound like a great idea! I always love seeing pics of your little dudes – they are the cutest! Oh and your awesome baked treats, too 😉 banana muffins are my kryptonite so you know I love these muffins! Trying soon!!!
Thanks Megan! You’re the sweetest! Would love to bake and enjoy muffins with you one day. 🙂
