This Top-Your-Own Toast Board is one of our favorite ways to enjoy a weekend breakfast or a weekday brinner. Everyone gets to top their toast just the way they like it with a delicious selection of savory and sweet toppings.
How do you like to top your toast? Savory or sweet? We love this Top-Your-Own Toast Board because you can have both! Top your first piece with your favorite savory toppings and your second piece with something sweet.
Here are some of my family’s favorite ways to top our toast:
- avocado, lime, cilantro, sea salt & a sunny-side-up egg
- Nutella & strawberries
- peanut butter, bacon, banana & honey
- butter & jam
- avocado, tomato slices, olive oil & sea salt
Building this board is so simple and everyone loves it! Let me show you how…
First of all, you need a good wood board! I used my favorite 36″ x 12″ walnut wood board that spans down the center of our dining table for this board. It’s so perfect for a build-your-own meal where we’re all sitting at the table. Other great wood boards I use when serving this Top-Your-Own Toast Board, depending on the number of people that will be enjoying it, are this 24″ x 18″ walnut wood board or this 18″ x 12″ walnut wood board or this 20″ x 14″ wooden board.
To build this board I start by toasting the toast and baking the bacon. Baguettes are great for toasting for this board because they stay crispy even at room temp.
To toast several smaller slices of bread at once, I arrange them on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 8-10 minutes, turning the toast after 5 minutes to ensure they’re toasted well on both sides.
Once the bacon is baked and the toast is toasted, I keep them warming in a 200°F oven while we cook the eggs & assemble the board.
Place a serving plate in the middle of the board for the eggs. Arrange the toppings on the board around the servings plate. For this board, I filled small serving bowls with halved cherry tomatoes, cilantro, strawberries, butter, peanut butter, Nutella, honey, sea salt and three different types of jams (strawberry, apricot & blueberry).
Once those bowls are placed on the board, I add the sliced bananas and avocado. I like to just quarter the avocados so everyone can mash it themselves or eat it as is.
We cook the eggs on a flat-top griddle sunny-side-up and then transfer them with a large flat spatula to the serving plate I have as a place holder in the middle of the board. This serving plate is oven-safe so if you prep the eggs in advance, just put them on the plate and then in a 200°F warming oven to keep them warm.
Now the board is ready for you to add the warm items and serve. Place the eggs in the center, the toast in a few different places for easy grabbing and the bacon in one of the corners.
And that’s all there is to it! So simple and sure to be enjoyed by all. It’s such a fun eating experience as everyone tops their toast and brags about how delicious their toast creation tastes. And it’s amazing to see how each person is willing to try toppings they may have never tried on toast before. It’s one of my favorite parts of serving a build-your-own meal board.

- eggs, cooked sunny-side-up or scrambled
- butter
- peanut butter
- Nutella
- honey
- jams (strawberry, apricot, blueberry)
- fresh strawberries
- banana slices
- avocados, quartered
- cilantro
- cherry tomatoes, halved
- flaked sea salt
Instructions
- Start by baking the bacon and toasting the baguette slices.

- Bake the bacon.
- Keep the toast and bacon warm in a 200°F oven while you arrange the toppings on the board & cook the eggs.
- Place a serving plate in the middle of a 36″ x 12″ wood board.
- Arrange the toppings on the board first. For this board, I filled small serving bowls with halved cherry tomatoes, cilantro, strawberries, butter, peanut butter, Nutella, honey, sea salt and three different types of jams (strawberry, apricot & blueberry).

- Arrange the toasted baguette slices in a few places on the board and place the baked bacon in one of the corners of the board.
- Add spreaders for the butter, peanut butter, Nutella, jams and honey.
- Serve immediately while everything is warm. Enjoy!
