  1. This recipe sounds so good! I have a loaf of Thomas cinnamon bread. Could I use that? If so, would I need to do anything different with the cinnamon/ sugar mixture?

    1. Hi Renee! You could definitely use the cinnamon bread if it’s soft enough to roll flat and then roll up tightly without it falling apart. Any soft bread works great and the added cinnamon of the cinnamon bread would be so wonderful. I hope they turn out great! Enjoy!

  2. these are amazing, the first time I messed up the measurements but I made them today and they are diff a fan favorite!

    1. Hi, Jasmine! I suppose that depends on how many people will be enjoying it and whether or not there will be other foods. Each recipe makes 8 roll ups. If you plan on serving other substantial food, 1-2 roll ups per person should be enough. Hope this helps!

  3. did I do something wrong? the butter and sugar mixture did not work out. once I tried putting it on the bread it just started to harden and not work at all.

    1. Hi Brittany! Oh no, that should not happen. The mixture should be smooth and spreadable. I wonder if your sugars were dried out? Or if you happened to mismeasure any of the ingredients?

  4. These were really good but very sweet. I think I’ll skip rolling them in the cinnamon sugar mixture after they are done cooking. But, hubby says I can make these again! Lol 🙃 thank you!

    1. Hi Adelaide! By normal bread, do you mean wheat bread? Yes, of course you can, just keep in mind that white bread is typically softer and less likely to tear when rolling. If you don’t have large eggs, you may need an extra egg to make enough to dredge the bread in. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

  5. Hello I was wondering what can I do to substitute brown sugar because I don’t have any. Should I just use regular sugar again or…
    🙂

    1. Hi Dounia! You can just substitute the brown sugar with the same amount of granulated sugar. I hope this helps! Enjoy!

    1. Hi, Marcia! YES! To freeze, cool completely, wrapped individually in plastic wrap and stored in a freezer safe container or baggie in the freezer for up to 2 months.Defrost by placing in the fridge overnight. Reheat using the instructions above.
To reheat from frozen, place on a baking sheet in the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes. Or reheat in a toaster oven until heated through and crisp again on the outside. Hope this helps! ❤️

    1. Hi, Addison! I love to hear it! I’m so happy you enjoyed them. Definitely a house favorite.

    1. Hi Peter! Absolutely! They freeze and reheat great. I include detailed instructions within this blog post. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  6. Loved the way they turned out. Made them for my son who goes to work early morning. Have not tried them. I did put them in the frig but I don’t know how to heat them so they don’t get soggy. Help

    1. Hi, Susan! To keep them crisp, you can reheat in a 350-degree oven for 10 minutes. Or reheat on the stovetop by placing a little butter in a skillet over medium heat until crisp on the outside and heated through. Or reheat in the microwave in 30 second intervals until heated through – but they won’t be crisp. Enjoy!

  7. I LOVE these! I was wishing for cinnamon rolls but did not want to cook in the California heat. These rolls are outstanding! I want to experiment with rolling up with a little fruit jelly in the middle. I am not likely to freeze any of these because my husband and I will probably eat any I create! Thanks for the video! It made it easy to see how these go together! Cheers!

  8. I made these for the grandsons this morning. Only things I did different is cut sugar and added only brown sugar. I then dipped them in butter after the egg mixture. Put into air fryer and cooked about 5-7 minutes. I’d get one done and put in air fryer. They all per them were delicious! Thanks for a kid friendly recipe.

  9. Awesome recipe!
I made these for the first time and the kids devoured them!
So easy to prepare and I will definitely make them again and again and again!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁

  10. Hello Maegan!!

These look and sound amazing! My husband works away from home. When he is home, he is home for one day and it is usually a Sunday. I love to cook on Saturdays so he can take meals with him to freeze etc. I’m going to make these for him. I am going to make them plain but also want to make them with an already cooked maple sausage link? If so, how do I do it correctly? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi April! I love hearing that! I hope y’all enjoy the roll-ups. They are a family favorite! I haven’t tested the recipe with sausage links so I couldn’t say for sure how to do it correctly. It sounds amazing so we’ll definitely have to try it soon and I’ll let you know how they turn out. Enjoy!

    1. Hi Jakob! Yes, soft wheat bread works just as great! We use it to make these all the time. Enjoy!

  11. I took my crusts, remaining spread & egg mixture and mixed them together, let it soak up the mixture then cooked it in my waffle maker to make like a French toast bread pudding….waffle? Lol but it was delicious! Kids loved the French toast roll ups and I enjoyed the waffle thing.

  12. I just randomly clicked on this recipe and then scrolled down and saw my name. Now I have no choice but to make these because clearly it’s meant to be haha

  13. My son is a big breakfast for dinner guy.. and well cinnamon rolls are just about his favorite thing in life! He was pleasantly surprised when he asked “ what’s for dinner?” These roll ups will now be in frequent rotation any time of day.. delicious! Thank you!❤️

    1. Hi Amy! I bet they would turn out great. Certainly worth a try! Let me know if you try it and how they turn out. Enjoy!

  14. Made this and added crumbled bacon inside and my husband turned into a little boy right before my eyes. It was the cutest thing ever! Breakfast finger food and delicious!!!!!

  15. My sister made these for my birthday meal, I’m 49…..and they were such a hit. Had to fill some with Nutella and raspberry jam, but the originals were the best . My family included teanagers and younger kids and 4 adults. cara made a quadruple batch and only 2 were left!

    Soooooo goooood!!!

    1. So great to hear, Jen! What a fun and yummy birthday meal! Hope you had a great birthday! Thanks for sharing!

  16. We made this yesterday but gave a slightly healthier twist.. used whole grain bread and used honey instead of sugar. Thank you so much for the recipe. Our family liked it a lot

  17. This is my sons favorite recipe, he has been asking me to make this for the past few weeks and tomorrow is his birthday so I will be surprising him for breakfast. He is going to be so excited when he wakes up!

    1. Aww, Emmie! I love this so much! How sweet of you to surprise him. I hope he has the best birthday and enjoys every bite of his French Toast Roll Ups! 🙂

  18. Very yummy. I use a little less Cinnamon and soak it in egg wash as long as possible (just before it tries to fall apart).

  19. Thanks for sharing this recipe Maegan. My daughter absolutely loved them, although I substituted cinnamon sugar mixture with homemade craneberry jam. It worked out well.

  20. I reduced each mix by 1 tbsp sugar for less sweetness. My kids loved it! From now on this will be the only way french toast is made in our house.

Btw, do not discard the bread side trimmings. You can use them to soak up the remaining egg/milk mixture, fry and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

  21. I made these French toast roll ups as directed. After sprinkling with the cinnamon sugar I drizzled them with a bit of leftover cinnamon roll glaze. oMg! Delicious! This recipe is a keeper!

  22. I would cut back on some of the sugar, and make sure you don’t overfill them. I think it was my error, but they are VERY sweet.

Great recipe though! And lots of room to add whatever you like. Thanks for the ideas!!

  23. Oh my gosh! This is the yummiest french toast I have EVER had! My kids and I absolutely LOVE it. Thank you so much for the most wonderful recipe 🙂

  24. Can I make these ahead minus the egg and freeze? These would make a good camping breakfast.

    1. Hi Maurya! I would suggest making and cooking them completely. Then let them cool and freeze them. When you’re ready to eat them you can reheat them in the oven or on the stovetop to crisp them back up. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  25. These look absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to make them for my Fiancée. He is going to just love them!!

  26. Wow, not too often I come across someone with the same spelling as my daughter’s name. Can’t wait to try this recipe! I’m sure Maegan will love them.

    1. Love it! I think I’ve only met a handful of people that spell it the same. Mae is a family name so that is why my parents spelled mine this way. Hope y’all enjoy the roll-ups! 🙂

  27. When I make french toast, I spread peanut butter on the bread like a sandwich. I’m gonna try that with these also. Sound Good? Try it. My family loves it.

  28. We just made these and they were great! We served them with bacon on the side but I am thinking I might put crumbled cooked bacon on the inside next time. Thank you for the recipe!

  29. These were very tasty, thank you for the great idea. Maybe this is just me, but I feel it’s best to encourage the use of utensils when eating, especially for children. You can cut a piece with a fork and dip that in the syrup, or just pour syrup over the roll up. Thank you again for the recipe.

  30. Hi these look delicious! Unfortunately I do not have butter at the moment and would love to try them is there anything that could replace the butter?
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Emma! The butter flavor is pretty key and would definitely be missed if not used, but you could try substituting it in the filling with: olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, applesauce or peanut butter. For the pan, I would recommend canola oil. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  31. I’ve mixed cinnamon with low-carb sweetener to sprinkle over cinnamon toast. Mayber that would work for this recipe to cut carbs. You don’t need much sweetener. It’s very sweet. Mix to taste. Use sweetener recommended for baking.

  32. These look really good! Is there a way to make these without using the egg? I really don’t like the egg taste that I get from making my own french toast. Thank you! 🙂

    1. Hi Melanie! I’m not sure you would get the same great crust on the outside without the egg. I’ve never tried it. Maybe try searching for eggless french toast and see if you can substitute something to still get the classic french toast crust. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. Enjoy!

  33. This was a huge hit with my Grandchildren. Will make it again for sure and try it with Nutella and Bananas as suggested 🙂

  34. Hi Maegan. These look amazing and perfect for a baby shower brunch I’m throwing. My plan is to make them ahead of time. I’ll put them in the refrig as you suggested, but do you think I should wait to sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar until after I reheat,or does it work well to totally complete them when making them?

    Thx!
    Mary

    1. Hi Mary! These would be so perfect for a baby shower brunch! I would recommend going ahead and sprinkling them with the cinnamon sugar right after you cook them so that it sticks well to the roll up. You could always give them another light sprinkle after you reheat them, but they’ll still taste great either way. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

    1. Hi Julie! Yes, you can use salted butter. The salt will just cut some of the sweetness from the filling and coating, but they should still taste great. Enjoy!

  35. This looks amazing!! But I was wondering, to make the cinnamon spread can I not use brown sugar or is the brown sugar a must?
    (Thank you in advance) 🙂

    1. Hi Azjm! I love the flavor the brown sugar adds, but you could certainly replace it with granulated sugar. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

  36. Do these freeze well so that after they’re fully prepared and cooked, all my kids have to do is take them out the freezer and pop them in the microwave for about a minute? Thanks!

    1. Hi Athena! I haven’t tried freezing them yet, but I do keep them in the refrigerator throughout the week and they reheat great in the microwave, oven or toaster oven. If you freeze them, just make them and let them cool completely before placing them in an airtight container or resealable baggie(s) with parchment paper and/or distance in between them so they don’t stick together. Then just remove and reheat. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

  37. These look delicious. Can’t wait to try them. Do you think they could be frozen? Wondering if I could make them and reheat for quick weekday breakfast.

    1. Hi Sam! I think you could definitely freeze them. Just make them and let them cool completely before placing them in an airtight container or resealable baggie(s) with parchment paper and/or distance in between them so they don’t stick together. Reheat in the oven or a toaster oven until heated all the way through. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

  38. Wow! Meagan, these look fantabulous. I am actually going to try this recipe tonight. (my co-workers & I have to sample the goods first) lol. I work overnight as a Youth Worker in a cottage & just love, love making yummy snacks for the kiddos before they leave for school. I am certain that these will put BIG 🙂 smiles on their faces.. Thanks for the AWESOME recipe…please keep em commin.
    Connie

    1. I haven’t tried it yet, but I would suggest storing them in the refrigerator overnight and reheating them in a 350 degree oven until warm all the way through. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

    1. Love it! I saw it on The Chew and adapted it from their recipe where they fill it with Nutella and bananas. Wanted to keep it classic as you just can’t beat a good cinnamon-sugar french toast. 🙂

    1. Hi Bri! They may not get the same buttery crispness on the outside, but they’ll still taste great. I bake regular french toast all the time, usually at 400 for 20-25 minutes. Enjoy!
