Restaurant Style Tzatziki Sauce at Home
When there’s time, I absolutely prefer homemade basics to jarred sauces. Whether it’s a homemade ranch dressing or a simple marinara sauce, or a tangy barbecue sauce, you can really taste the home touch in every bite. And this homemade tzatziki sauce is so creamy and full of flavor. It’s every bit as good as your favorite Greek restaurant.

My favorite thing about this sauce is how light and creamy it is. And so full of flavor! The fresh dill, bright lemon zest and earthy cucumber complement the tang of the Greek yogurt so beautifully. It’s perfect for dipping fresh pita (or baked pita chips), sliced cucumbers and other veggies or serving with a greek chicken salad.

Ingredients and Supplies
(see recipe card at the bottom of this post for measurements and details)
Ingredients:
- Plain Greek yogurt: creamy base that provides thickness, tang, and structure. Whole milk Greek yogurt is best, but nonfat or 2% would work well too.
- Fresh garlic (minced): adds a bold, savory punch and classic tzatziki flavor. Fresh minced garlic is best, but you could use garlic paste or garlic powder in a pinch.
- Fresh lemon (zest and juice): brings bright citrus aroma and adds acidity that balances the creamy yogurt.
- Fresh dill (chopped): signature herbal note that makes it taste authentic and fresh. If you need to use dried dill, you’ll need to use less.
- Fresh cucumber (seeded and finely chopped): adds refreshing crunch and cooling texture. Omit for a smoother yogurt sauce.
- Salt and pepper (to taste): enhance and balances all the flavors.
