5 Ways to Roast Marshmallows at Home

No campfire? No problem! Here are 5 ways to roast marshmallows at home without a fire pit!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Always be very careful when using fire to roast marshmallows. Marshmallows are easily flammable and if not roasted with care, they can create a fire hazard.

  1. Fireplace: This is as close to a campfire as it gets! Light the fireplace and roast the marshmallow on a long skewer over the fire, but not in it! You want it to be close enough to roast the outside of the marshmallow and slowly melt the inside. Roast to desired toastiness! Be careful not to let the marshmallow drip into your fireplace.
  2. Stovetop: -An easy indoor option! Turn the stovetop to medium-high heat. If roasting over a gas flame, hold the marshmallow about an inch from the flame for a charred marshmallow and about 2 inches for a lightly browned roast. If roasting over an electric flattop, hold the marshmallow close to the heating element and turn the skewer until the marshmallow reaches the desired level of doneness.
  3. Grill: If we already have the grill going for our meal, we love making s’mores on it for dessert! Turn the grill to high heat and roast the marshmallows on a long skewer over the hot flame until of desired toastiness.
  4. Microwave: You won’t get a roasted marshmallow this way, but it will be melty! Place a graham cracker, piece of chocolate and a marshmallow on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high for 10-15 seconds, watching it carefully as the marshmallow will puff up. Remove from the microwave and top with another graham cracker. These are best enjoyed right away!
  5. Oven: The oven is such a great way to roast perfectly golden marshmallows! Heat the oven to broil (about 500°F). Place graham crackers and chocolate on a baking sheet and top each with a marshmallow. Roast for 1 to 2 minutes, watching carefully! Once the marshmallows are at your desired toastiness, remove them from the oven and press another graham cracker on top of each roasted marshmallow.
