Just two ingredients and one easy to follow method and you’ve got Easy Homemade KitKat Bites that taste just like the real deal. Crisp chocolate creme wafers and a rich chocolate coating in a fun bite-size homemade candy bar that’s irresistible.

Easy Homemade Candy Bars

Homemade candy does NOT have to be complicated. I love how easy and how simply delicious these homemade KitKats are. They taste so much fresher than the store-bought kind, and are always a huge hit with the kids.

How to Make Homemade KitKat Bites

  • Cut each of the wafer cookies in half crosswise.
  • Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 seconds intervals until melted and smooth, stirring between each interval.

  • Using a fork, dip and coat each wafer cookie half completely in the melted chocolate, letting any excess chocolate drip back into the bowl before transferring the coated wafer to a parchment-lined sheet pan.

  • Transfer the coated wafer to a parchment-lined sheet pan.

  • Let the bites set at room temperature until the chocolate is completely set.

How to Store Homemade KitKat Bites

Store homemade KitKats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. 

To freeze, flash freeze in a single layer on a parchment lined sheet pan for about 1 hour. Then wrap each one in plastic wrap and place in a freezer safe plastic bag or container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Alternatively, flash freeze in a single layer for 1 hour and then space out in layers with parchment between each layer in a freezer-safe plastic bag or container to freezer for up to 3 months.

To defrost frozen candy bars, keep wrapped and allow to defrost in the refrigerator first and then let come to room temperature before enjoying.

    1. Hi, Paula! Oh, no! The directions are to microwave until the chocolate chips are melted, stirring every 30 seconds. If the chocolate didn’t melt, you stopped microwaving too soon. I’ve made these many times and the recipe works if you follow all the steps.
