Crazy About Cinnamon Rolls

I have a bit of an obsession with cinnamon rolls and love inventing creative recipes for store bought cinnamon rolls. I’m also an absolute devotee of state fair food. Think, Funnel cakes, corn dogs, churros. And deep fried Oreos. Fried Oreos are a TOP food at the fair. The coating is crisp and sweet. The cream filling melts just a bit to make it such a tasty experience.

This recipe is my spin on making fried Oreos using canned cinnamon roll dough. I wanted to recreate our favorite fair food at home, but I didn’t want to mess with dipping Oreos in a drippy batter. Instead, I wrapped them in prepared cinnamon-spiked dough, fried them up and drizzled them with that sweet cinnamon roll glaze and crushed Oreos. PERFECTION.

Honestly, they’re better than any fried Oreo I’ve tried (and I always try them).

Ingredients and Supplies

(see recipe card at the bottom of this post for measurements and details)

Ingredients:

  • Refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing: the key is using canned cinnamon rolls that separate cleanly in half instead of unraveling. The Grands! cinnamon rolls are too big and spiraled, so those won’t work well as they will unravel as they fry.
  • Double Stuf Oreo cookies: you can use regular Oreos instead, but they’ll be a bit thinner so you’ll have more dough-to-cookie ratio. Still good, just more “doughy”. You could certainly use Golden Oreos or a seasonal flavored Oreo (pumpkin, peanut butter chocolate, birthday cake, etc.), if desired.
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Crushed Oreo cookies, for garnishing
  • Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil works well)

How to Make Cinnamon Roll Fried Oreos

  • Open the can of cinnamon rolls and separate them on a work surface. Reserve the icing for later.
  • Using a sharp knife, carefully slice each cinnamon roll horizontally in half to create a top and bottom piece. Flatten them out just a bit to make them rounder.
  • Place one Oreo on the bottom half and then position the top half over it. Gently press and pinch the edges together so the dough fully seals around the Oreo.

  • Repeat with remaining cinnamon rolls and Oreos.
  • In a large deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat to 350°F.
  • Carefully, lower a few stuffed cinnamon rolls into the heated oil, avoiding overcrowding. They should sizzle immediately and start to float to the top.
  • Fry for about 1 minute per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain off the excess oil.
  • Warm the reserved icing for 10 seconds or until of drizzling consistency.

Storage

These are definitely best hot and fresh, but if you’ve got extras you can let them cool completely, then store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day (longer and they get soggy).
Reheat in an air fryer at 325°F for 3–4 minutes or in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes to bring back the crispness.
