Ice Cream Parlor Fun at Home
A customizable board like this lets you enjoy the ice cream parlor from your own home. From classic vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce, sprinkles, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry on top to fun concoctions with toppings like M&M’s, gummies, and marshmallow sauce, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
How to Make an Ice Cream Sundae Board
While it may look and feel (and taste!) extravagant, this board is really pretty simple to assemble and makes for such a memorable ice cream experience. Here’s how it’s done:
- Place a galvanized bucket in the middle of a wood board (I used this 18″ x 12″ walnut wood board).
- Wait to put the ice cream and ice in the bucket right before you’re ready to serve the board.
- Place some waffle bowls, ice cream cones and/or small serving bowls in one corner of the board.
- Put all of the ice cream toppings in mini serving bowls around the bucket. You can browse my favorite serving bowls on my Board Building Accessories favorites page.
- Heat the jars of fudge sauce, marshmallow sauce and caramel sauce according to jar directions. Place the warm sauces at the bottom of the board. Put the whipped topping on or next to the board.
- Grab your favorite containers of ice cream and put them in the galvanized bucket with lots of ice around them to keep them frozen.
- Set out several ice cream scoops and let the fun begin!
Options Galore!
The best part about this board is that, with so many options, everyone can join in on the ice-cream excitement! Some of our favorite elements include:
ICE CREAM:
Classic ice cream flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. Some brands we love are Blue Bell, Tillamook, Braum’s and Häagen Dazs, but feel free to use your favorite brand.
Depending on the size of your party, I recommend getting smaller containers, like pints, of ice cream so that you have more flavor options. A few “fun” flavors that we like including are rocky road, cookies ‘n’ cream, mint chocolate chip, peanut butter fudge, or even cookie dough!
TOPPINGS:
Crunchy toppings such as chopped nuts, sprinkles, crumbled Heath bar, crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips. Cookies and candies are a must!
There are even mini fudge stripes cookies, Reeses Pieces, M&M’s, gummy worms, and mini peanut butter cups on this board. And don’t forget the whipped cream and maraschino cherries!
SAUCES:
Drizzling sauces like fudge, caramel and marshmallow are a must!
Add any other fancy extras that your ice-cream-loving hearts desire!
You can find more inspiration for a Build-Your-Own Sundae Board in my Beautiful Boards cookbook on page 145. There are step-by-step instructions for this board (and 49 others!) that are sure to give you and your loved ones the ultimate eating experience!
