I love to serve this baked brie with a variety of flavors and textures. Basic water crackers (you need a cracker that’s hard enough to scoop up the brie). Salty, crunchy nuts. Sweet dried apricots. Fresh fruit like apple slices (I prefer Honeycrisp or Gala). The combinations are so perfect for a cozy, satisfying and rich-tasting appetizer.

What Do I Need to Make Baked Brie with Fig Jam?
- Refrigerated crescent roll dough
- Brie cheese wheel
- Fig jam
- Fresh figs
- Egg
- Water
- Thyme sprigs
- Baking sheet and parchment paper
- Large serving plate or platter
How to Make Baked Brie with Fig Jam
- Heat oven to 350°F. On a cutting board, unroll the crescent dough and firmly press perforations to seal.
- Using a mini cookie cutter, cut 10 leaf or flower shapes out of each end of the crescent dough and then trim the dough ends so that it is even.
- Place the wheel of brie cheese on the center of the dough and top with the fig jam.
- Chop the figs so you have about 10 small pieces. Press the fresh fig pieces into fig jam.
- Pull crescent dough over the top of the brie wheel and bunch together, leaving a round opening on top with the figs and fig jam peeking through. Transfer the brie to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon water.
- Brush all over the dough with the egg wash.
- Place mini cut-outs around the opening of crescent dough and brush with egg wash as well.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove the baked brie from the oven and let set for 5 minutes before transferring to a serving board or platter.
Questions and Substitutions
Store leftover baked brie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat baked brie slowly in the microwave on 50% power until melted again or in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes.
Can I use puff pastry instead? You could, but it would change the texture. Both crescent dough and puff pastry are laminated doughs. But crescent roll dough contains yeast that makes it bake up puffy and light. Which is the texture I was going for here!
Also keep in mind that store-bought puff pastry comes frozen and you’d need to incorporate thawing time.
Can I use phyllo dough instead? The short answer is, I wouldn’t. Phyllo (or filo dough) becomes very delicate and flaky when baked. It wouldn’t adhere as well to the brie and shatter when cut. It also doesn’t have all that butter in it, so the flavor wouldn’t be as rich.
