How ‘Last-Minute’ Becomes a Family Fave

I put together this American Flag Cheese Tray as a last-minute 4th of July snack lunch and it was such a huge hit with my family! We all oohed and aahed over it as we gathered around to dig in to all the deliciousness.

It has been such a big hit over the years for patriotic holidays that a version definitely needed to be included in my Beautiful Boards cookbook. I just love seeing so many people, all over the country, recreating it to celebrate our great country.

13 Stripes, One Epic Cheese Tray

I created the flag shape with all red, white and blue foods. Red fruits, veggies, crackers and meat. White cheeses, nuts and crackers. Blueberries (and a blueberry covered cheese log on this edition) with white cheese cut into little stars with a mini star cutter. It all came together for one stunning patriotic platter!

I got everything from Trader Joe’s! Here’s a breakdown of all the goodies I used to create this epic cheese tray:

  • Blueberries
  • Blueberry Chèvre Fresh Goat Cheese
  • Semi-Soft Fontina, cut into little stars
  • Dried Pitted Tart Montmorency Cherries
  • Coconut Cashews
  • Mini Pearl Grape Tomatoes
  • Savory Thin Mini Crackers
  • Strawberries
  • Manchego Cheese
  • Red Pepper Slices
  • Blue Cheese
  • Calabrese Salame
  • Unexpected White Cheddar Cheese
  • Three Seed Beet Crackers
  • Truffle Marcona Almonds
  • Raspberries

Pick a Flag Tray!

I used an American Flag decorated serving tray that I got from Target a few years ago to easily create the flag design and I’m so sad to say that they don’t carry it anymore (please bring it back, Target!). No need to worry though, I searched around and found a few other great looking American Flag Trays you could use:

  • 4th of July Party Large Patriotic Serving Tray from Amazon
  • Vintage Whitewashed Wood American Flag Rustic Wood Board from Amazon (cover with plastic wrap or coat with food safe oil before placing food directly on it)
  • Large Glass Red, White & Blue Flag Cutting Board from Amazon
  • American Flag Melamine Rectangular Tray from Kohl’s

Watch How it’s Made!

Here’s a breakdown of all the goodies I used to create this epic cheese tray:

  • 3 cups blueberries
  • ½ cup raspberries
  • 10 strawberries, cut in half
  • 1 red pepper, sliced into ½ inch strips
  • 12 mini pearl grape tomatoes, cut in half
  • 8 oz. Uncured Applewood Smoked Salami
  • 1 log Blueberry Chèvre Fresh Goat Cheese
  • 8 oz. baby Swiss cheese, cut into cubes
  • 8 oz. Cheddar & Gruyere Mèlange Cheese
  • 26 White Cheddar Cracker Cuts, divided
  • 26 Mini Cheddar Stars, cut from 13 White Cheddar Cracker Cuts using a mini star cutter
  • 45 Three Seed Beet Crackers
  • 13 Sea Salt Pita Crackers
  • ½ cup Coconut Cashews
  • ½ cup Marcona Almonds
  • ¼ cup dried pitted tart Montmorency cherries
  • ½ cup ranch dressing, for serving
  • ½ cup yogurt, for serving

It’s super easy and makes for a such a great patritoic display. Here’s to WOWing your crowd on the 4th of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the detailed TJs product breakdown and for assembling such a beautiful board in general. I did a small version this past weekend but it was nonetheless cute/delicious.
