Cinnamony Sweet and Salty

We adore a sweet and salty snack mix and never need any excuse to put one together. If we’re munching on Study Time Snack Mix after school, I’m packing No-Bake Snack Mix Bars into lunch boxes or prepping a batch of Touchdown Snack Mix for game time. And this cinnamon sugar churro mix is sure to be in the rotation. It’s so delicious, it’s hard to resist licking our fingers!

Make it Your Own!

With so many ways to customize this mix, it’s bound to be a hit in your household. Toss in Cinnamon Protein Cheerios for a little extra staying power. Or add peanuts or chopped pecans for more crunch. You do you! It’s so delicious and flexible.

Ingredients and Supplies

(see recipe card at the bottom of this post for measurements and details)

Ingredients:

  • Cinnamon Chex cereal: brings that light, crispy crunch and soaks up the buttery caramel coating like a champ. You could use Rice or Corn Chex (but you’ll lose the cinnamon flavor — could add a pinch more spice to compensate though).
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal: adds sweetness, cinnamon, and that classic churro vibe. The flavor here is nostalgic and bold.
  • Cinnamon Oat Crunch Cheerios: brings a heartier crunch and more cinnamon depth. Balances the sweetness with a slight oat flavor. You can swap with Cinnamon Protein Cheerios, regular Cheerios, or even Honey Nut Cheerios in a pinch.
  • Pretzel sticks: add a great salty crunch! They cut through the sweetness and make it snacky vs. dessert-only. Feel free to swap with pretzel snaps or mini pretzel twists.
  • Unsalted butter (melted): provides the rich base for the caramel coating that helps everything stick together. Salted butter works, but just skip the pinch of added salt.
  • Light brown sugar (packed): melts into a quick caramel, gives depth and sweetness. Dark brown sugar would work for richer molasses notes, or coconut sugar for a less refined option.
  • Vanilla extract: adds warmth and dessert-y depth — makes it taste like a treat. You could swap the vanilla with maple extract, or even a touch of almond, if you’re feeling bold.
  • Kosher salt (just a pinch): balances the sweet and makes all the flavors pop. Especially important with all that cinnamon and sugar.
  • Caramel bits: melts into chewy little pops of caramel goodness once baked. Swap for chopped soft caramels, butterscotch chips, or even mini marshmallows for a different twist.
  • Granulated sugar: adds that classic churro sparkle and crunch. Turbinado sugar could be used for extra texture or coconut sugar for a twist.
  • Ground cinnamon: brings it all together — the churro identity lives in the cinnamon. You could swap pumpkin pie spice (for a cozy fall vibe), or extra cinnamon if you’re cinnamon-obsessed.

Storage

Store the snack mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Be sure to let it cool completely on the pan before sealing it up — any residual warmth can create condensation, making it soggy.

In the event it starts to lose its crispness midweek, you can pop it back in a 250°F oven for 5–8 minutes to revive that crunch a bit.
