Dip into it with your favorite soft pretzels or pour it over tortilla chips for no-fuss nachos. In this Basics by The BakerMama, I teach you how to make this versatile Easy Cheese Sauce that’s a snack time favorite. Did I mention that it takes less than 10 minutes to make?

Game Time All the Time

I’d be lying if I said we’re not making this cheese sauce a least once a week during football season. Melting cheese with just the right texture for dipping, It goes perfectly with my Soft Pretzel Bites or my Jumbo Soft Pretzel. It’s a snack time must-have!

How to Make Easy Cheese Sauce

  • First, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour and then slowly whisk in the milk. Continue whisking until it comes to a slight simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low.

  • Add in the cheese and stir frequently until melted.

  • Serve immediately or keep warm over low heat so it stays melty until you’re ready to serve it.
  • Whisk in additional milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the cheese sauce starts to thicken.

Storage

Let cool completely. Place in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheat in the microwave or over low heat on the stove. Too thick? Just add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, to thin it out until of desired dippable consistency.

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk, plus more if needed
  • 8 ounces deluxe American cheese slices, cut into smaller pieces

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and then slowly whisk in the milk. Continue whisking until it comes to a slight simmer.
  3. Reduce the heat to low. Add in the cheese and stir frequently until melted.
