Description
Creamy cheddar cheese with fresh tomato, onion, jalapeño and cilantro make this Easy Stovetop Queso a flavorful party favorite.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped white onion
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (keep seeds for spiciness if desired)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 cups milk, plus more if needed
- 3 cups shredded medium cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup seeded and diced tomato
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan or skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, onion, and jalapeño, and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Whisk in the flour, and then slowly whisk in the milk.
- Reduce the heat to low. Add the cheese and stir until melted. Stir in the tomato, cilantro, lime juice, and salt.
- Serve immediately, or keep warm while serving so it stays melted. Stir in additional milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the queso starts to thicken.
