Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture and whisk until smooth and combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  5. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the tops spring back lightly and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
  7. Prepare the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting recipe as directed and then spread or pipe onto cooled cupcakes.
