Super soft, moist chocolate cupcakes with a rich, creamy chocolate buttercream frosting are perfect for celebrating birthdays and special occasions or making any day a little more sweet.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
- Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture and whisk until smooth and combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the tops spring back lightly and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Let cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
- Prepare the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting recipe as directed and then spread or pipe onto cooled cupcakes.
