Valentine’s Day Pancake Board

I make a really big deal about Valentine’s Day. From breakfast to bedtime, I turn every meal or snack into an edible celebration of love. I can’t help it. I’m a sap! I created this Valentine’s Day Pancake Board with my Cake Mix Pancakes to make our first meal of the day extra special.

Let’s Dish!

You’ll notice I use a lot of heart dishes on my Valentine’s boards. Here are some of my favorites you can find on Amazon:

How to Make Cake Mix Pancakes

These pancakes are such a treat! The cake mix adds fun color and makes the pancakes just a little sweeter. For these red and pink Valentine’s pancakes, I used red velvet and strawberry cake mixes.

To make the pancakes, first whisk the cake mix, flour, baking powder, beaten eggs, milk, and oil all together in a large bowl until combined and smooth.

Then, heat a griddle to medium heat and spray with cooking spray before and between each batch of pancakes.

Scoop ¼ cup portions of the batter onto the hot griddle and cook until the top of the batter just starts to bubble, about 2-3 minutes.

Flip and cook on the other side, about 1-2 minutes until the pancakes are cooked all the way through.

How to Make Heart-Shaped Pancakes

For heart-shaped pancakes, heat the griddle to medium heat.

Place a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or several) on the hot griddle and spray the inside generously with cooking spray.

Pour in enough pancake batter to fill just ¼ up the inside of the cookie cutter. The batter will rise as it cooks, so you don’t want to fill the cookie cutter up too much. Let the pancake cook until the top of the batter just starts to bubble, about 2-3 minutes.

Using kitchen tongs, carefully grab the side of the cookie cutter (don’t use your hands as the cookie cutter will be very hot!) and gently pull it up and off the griddle. The pancake should hold its heart shape at this point.

Remove cookie cutters from pancakes with tongs

Using a spatula, flip the pancake and cook another 1-2 minutes until cooked all the way through. Repeat with remaining batter to make as many heart-shaped pancakes as you desire. Having several heart-shaped cookie cutters cooking pancakes at once will make the process go quicker.

How to Build a Valentine’s Day Pancake Board

Start by washing and slicing the fruit to have ready to put on the board first. I also set out the syrup, butter, nutella, peanut butter and chocolate chips at this time.

Bake the heart-shaped bacon. While the bacon is baking, make the pancakes.

When the bacon is finished baking, turn the oven down to 200°F. Keep the cooked pancakes and baked bacon in the warm oven while you arrange the board. That way, everything stays toasty!

Use a 24” x 18” board and start by placing the bowls like these or these filled with heart-shaped strawberries, mixed berries, whipped cream, chocolate chips, M&M’s, heart-shaped sprinkles, and jars of syrup, Nutella and peanut butter on the board. Next arrange the cooked pancakes and heart-shaped bacon on the board. Finish by placing the sliced banana and butter on the board.

Serve immediately while everything is warm. Enjoy!
