Description

Yummy Baked Banana Donuts with a Maple Glaze drizzled with a little chocolate for a quick and fun breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

  • Donuts:
  • 1 cup Gold Medal® Better for Bread™ flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk or whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large bananas, mashed
  • Glaze:
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • Chocolate Drizzle:
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, oil, buttermilk and vanilla. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the mashed bananas.
  3. Place batter in a large resealable plastic bag and snip off one of the corners. Pipe batter into greased donut pan, filling each ring about 2/3 full. If you have two pans, you could go ahead and use all of the batter at once. If not, you will need to bake the donuts in two batches.
  4. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until donuts are set and spring back up when touched. Let cool in pan 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.
  5. While donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a medium microwavable bowl, melt the butter then whisk in the remaining ingredients until thick and smooth. Add additional powdered sugar to thicken it or a little milk to thin it out.
  6. For the chocolate drizzle, melt the chocolate chips and butter in a small microwave-safe bowl until almost melted, about 1 minute. Remove from microwave and stir until completely melted.
  7. Let chocolate set while you dip the tops of each donut in the maple glaze. I dip mine a few times to get a thick glaze over the top and sides of each donut. Place glaze-side up on a wire rack or baking sheet to let glaze set.
  8. Spoon chocolate mixture into a small resealable plastic bag and snip one of the corners. Drizzle chocolate over the top of each glazed donut.
  9. For a fun variation, dip half of the donuts in the melted chocolate glaze and immediately garnish with fun toppings such as sprinkles or nuts.

  1. I made this recipe this morning and it was super easy and definitely yummy! I think I may try doing it a tad differently next time.. Instead of doing the chocolate glaze on top, I’m going to put mini chocolate chips in the batter. We’ll see how it turns out! Thanks for a yummy recipe.

  2. Oh my heavens! Banana bread maple glaze chocolate all in a donut?? Sign me up! I’ll take a dozen. Oh, but I probably should take some for my family, too… 🙂 Pinning to try ASAP!
