Last Minute St. Patrick’s Day Fun

When it comes to holidays, there are those that I plan for weeks in advance (like Thanksgiving and Christmas). Then there are those that sneak up on me and I come up with something fun and yummy at the last minute, to celebrate with the day. St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays. It always falls on a different day of the week so it’s not always a day that’s convenient to host a big party, but I still like to do something special to celebrate.

How to Make Magic Mix

  • Separate the marshmallows from the cereal of the Lucky Charms. There should be about 2 cups marshmallows and 6 cups cereal.
  • In a large bowl, combine the Lucky Charms cereal, Chex cereal and pretzels.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, melt the candy coating according to package directions, usually 1 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth. Be sure not to over melt the candy coating as it will burn and become to thick to stir and coat the mix evenly.
  • Pour the melted candy coating over the ingredients in the large bowl and toss to coat with a large spoon. Ingredients should be evenly coated in the candy coating.
  • Spread the mixture out in an even layer on parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle with rainbow jimmies then the Trix Minis and the Lucky Charms marshmallows.
  • Allow mixture to cool completely. Break apart to serve. Store in a clear glass jar or plastic baggie at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

  1. This was fun to make with my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. On top of that, it was delicious. I used the Fruity Pebbles in place of the Trix, and I thought they added a nice punch of fruity flavor. Of course, the salty pretzels with the sweet cereals made for a great treat. We called it Leprechaun’s Magic Treat.

    1. Hi, Anastacia! This makes me so happy! I’m so glad you both enjoed it, but even more that you made it together. ❤️

  2. I haven’t made it yet but I’d like to. I’m just curious why we separate the marshmallows from the cereal. Will they melt in the chocolate?

    1. Hi, Keena! Yes, they can melt/shrivel up a bit mixed with the melted candy coating. Also, we just like them on their own floating around the mix!

  3. Loved the mix! thanks Maegen! My hubby loved it and it was a great pest remover!!!!!!!! Those damn kids amiright 😂😂

  4. Ok where is mini trix?? It is SO cute! I have searched Walmart and Target locally in KS… no luck… 😉🍀

    1. Hi Cheryl! I don’t think they made it this year, unfortunately. I would recommend using Fruity Pebbles. I used Fruity Pebbles instead and it turned out just as tasty and festive. Enjoy!

  5. I would love to make this for my son’s St. Patrick’s Day birthday party. Just wondering how many days you think this could be made in advance? Do you think it could be frozen ahead of time?

    1. Hi Megan! How fun! It will make for such a great b-day party treat! If you buy all the ingredients fresh and store it in an airtight container, it can keep for up to two weeks and still taste great. I do not recommend freezing it as the candy coating will release moisture when it defrosts causing the cereal and pretzels to lose some of their crunch. Enjoy!
